This classification of fungi is given by alexopolous in 1962.
He classified the Division mycota in to two sub-division.
1) Sub-Division First Myxomycotina
2) Sub-Division Second Eumycotina
1) Myxomycotina:- Plant body is plasmodium. It is classified into single class myxomycetes.
A) Class first Myxomycetes:- Vegetative phase is plasmodium. Reproduction takes place by very small multinucleate spore.
2) Eumycotina:- This sub-division divided into 8 natural classes and one form class.
A) CLASS FIRST - CHYTRIDIOMYCETES-
Fungi of this class are unicellular with one posterior whiplash flagella. Thsese are mostly parasite and holocarpic.
This class has three order.
B) CLASS SECOND-HYPHOCHYTRIDIOMYCETES-
Aquatic fungi motile cell with single anterior tinsel flagella.
Single order class.
C) CLASS THIRD PLASMODIOPHOROMYCETES-
These are obligate endoparasite fungi. The multinucleate thallus lives in the host cell of the many vascular plants the cell have two unequal whiplash flagella.
D) CLASS FOURTH-OOMYCETES-
Fungi of this class are either unicellular or has well developed coenocytic mycelium. Asexual spores have two flagella tinsel directed upward and whiplash downward.
Sexual spore are called oospore.
E) CLASS FIFTH-TRICHOMYCETES-
The fungi has branched coenocytic mycelia fungi of this class are usually parasite. They are found in digestive canal or on external cuticle of living arthropods.
F) CLASS Sixth-ZYGOMYCETES-
They are saprophyte or parasite coencytic septate mycelium absent sexual reproduction bigametangium population motile cell absent.
Ex:- Rhizopus, Mucor
G) CLASS SEVEN-ASCOMYCETES-
Fungi either unicellular with septa mycelium motile spore absent. Ascospore are formed in Ascus.
H) CLASS EIGHT-BASIDIOMYCETES-
Mycelium is septate and two types.
1)Primary mycelium
2)Secondary mycelium
Basidiospore are formed exogenously lived in basidium.
I) CLASS NINE-DEUTEROMYCETES-
Fungi imperfecitil-
Sexual reproduction is absent.
