TAPETUM

It is most important layer it is one cell thick. This layer is surrounded by sporogenous tissue. It is very active layer.

Tapetum layer

TYPES OF TAPETUM

The tapetum is two types.

  • Glandular types
  • Amoeboid types

  • Glandular types

  • It is most important layer mostly present in dicot plant. The cells of the tapetum are to start meiosis. In spore mother cell they degenerate after meiosis there protoplasm dies. It is used as food by developing pollen grain.

  • Amoeboid tapetum

  • It is mostly found in monocot plant. The cell of this tapetum degenerated very early the protoplasm is come out the spore mother cell are amoeboid in this protoplasm. It is primitive type tapetum. And it is also known as periplasmodial tapetum.

FUNCTION OF TAPETUM

  • The cells of tapetum perform many function these are as follow.

  • During meiosis the nutrition which are produced by the degeneration of middle layer pass through tapetum.

  • The cells of tapetum perform as enzyme cellulose.

  • This enzyme is used to seprate to pollen grain of tetrad.

  • The cells of tapetum synthesis problish body. There body help in the pollination of exine outer layer of the pollen grain.

  • The cells of tapetum also transfer pollen substance a mixture of lipid or caretoroidal the cells also synthesised some protein accumulate a enzyme these protein produce pollen allergy in man.
